The current search involves finding the specific fate of Andrew J. Coots. In July 1861 when R.T. Van Horn's Home Guards attempted to march through Harrisonville to Austin, a battle with local southern sympathizers took place. Van Horn indicated in his official report that a "Capt. Coots" was mortally wounded and died the day after the battle. I believe this was Andrew J. Coots. His wife and family left the county. Have been unable to find any record of the family in 1880. If anyone can verify the fate of Andrew J. Coots or his wife please let me know. Another piece of the puzzle can fall into place.
